14 years building social dance communities across Ireland. Specialist in beginner-friendly bachata nights, salsa meetups, and inclusive dance spaces for adults 45+.
I'm not one of those instructors who only teaches people already confident on the dance floor. My entire career is built around helping adults 45+ discover that they're absolutely capable of learning bachata, salsa, and social dancing — even if they haven't danced since school. Started as a passion in 2010 when I stumbled into a salsa night in Temple Bar and realised there was a whole community I didn't know existed. Now I run beginner-friendly events across Dublin and Galway, and I've trained over 200 adults in my workshops. The goal is always the same: make dance accessible, genuinely fun, and completely free of judgment.
I studied dance pedagogy at Trinity College Dublin and completed my teaching qualification at the Irish Institute of Dance in 2013. But honestly, the real education came from organising 40+ large-scale events, listening to what beginners actually struggle with, and figuring out how to make people feel welcome regardless of age or experience. That's why I write for yaltivo Four Ltd — to share what I've learned on the ground about Ireland's social dance scene, so readers can find authentic events and real communities near them.
Studied dance pedagogy at Trinity College Dublin, then completed my teaching qualification at the Irish Institute of Dance in 2013. Pursued specialist certifications in bachata instruction from mentors in Dublin and Limerick. This formal foundation gave me the structure; working with actual students gave me the real understanding.
Led over 200 beginner-friendly dance workshops in Dublin, Galway, and Cork since 2013. Each workshop is specifically designed for adults returning to movement after years away. They're small groups, relaxed atmosphere, and zero pressure. I've seen people go from "I can't dance" to genuinely enjoying themselves in just 6-8 weeks.
Organised more than 40 large-scale dance events from intimate bachata nights in Galway's West End to monthly salsa meetups that now attract 80+ participants in Dublin. These aren't just classes — they're actual community gatherings where people form friendships, find dance partners, and discover a social circle they didn't have before.
Recognised as a specialist in the Irish social dance scene, particularly for older dancers seeking beginner-friendly spaces. I've written extensively about finding communities, overcoming age-related confidence barriers, and understanding dance styles specific to Dublin and Galway events. My approach is always: meet people where they actually are, not where we think they should be.
My expertise covers the full spectrum of social dancing for adults 45+, with deep knowledge of Ireland's dance communities.
Bachata nights are where I started, and they're still my passion. I understand the music, the rhythm, the lead-follow dynamics, and most importantly — how to make beginners feel comfortable learning a dance that involves close partnership. I've run intimate bachata events in Galway that created actual friendships. The key is making sure everyone knows they're welcome, regardless of whether they've danced before.
Salsa is more energetic, more rhythmic, and honestly more fun for people who want to move. I've organised monthly salsa meetups in Dublin that've grown from 20 people to 80+ regular attendees. The community aspect is everything — people aren't just learning steps, they're building real social connections. That's what keeps them coming back.
This is my core focus. Too many dance communities make older beginners feel like they're in the way. I design events specifically around what 45+ dancers need: clear instruction, patient pacing, realistic expectations, and absolutely no ageism. I know the barriers (confidence, physical concerns, finding time) because I hear them constantly. My events address them directly.
I know the Dublin and Galway dance scenes intimately. Where the genuine beginner-friendly events happen. Which venues actually welcome older dancers. How the communities are structured in each city. Which instructors actually know what they're doing. That on-the-ground knowledge is what I bring to every guide I write — it's based on years of being inside these communities, not just observing from outside.
